Wednesday, August 25, 2010 11:51 AM  | 0 Comments
About a month ago, we got an invite to visit the studio of Worth. By David C. Wigley.  If you've not seen the behind-the-scenes F/W lookbook shoot, check them out here.

We're pleased to announce that Worth. By David C. Wigley's collection is now available online at Ukamaku.

A fashion forward label with a strong focus on exclusivity, hand craftsmanship, impeccable fit and tailoring, and using primarily sustainable fabrics – organic cotton and bamboo rayon – and using only natural fabrics. The collection uses a lot of in-house hand dyed fabrics and exclusive patterns produced and designed by David C. Wigley.

We look forward to future collections.  Shop Worth. by David C. Wigley, now available, and read the interview here.

News Item: Welcoming Pause Designs
Monday, August 9, 2010 10:38 AM  | 0 Comments
We're excited to welcome Pause Designs to our site.

Started by two talented artists, with the premise of creating garments that matches with the price tag, most often lost with most designs.  Pause Designs is changing that notion with their collection being more than a collection of printed apparel and accessories.  Each design is built on the premise of creating a proper piece of artwork that reflects the creativity and quality of their designs.

Get to know more about Pause Designs by visiting their Profile Page, and look out for our interview with them very soon.

News Item: Ukamaku @ Liberty Village
Thursday, August 5, 2010 9:59 AM  | 0 Comments
Recently, we moved into Liberty Village.  If you haven’t heard of Liberty Village, it’s one of Toronto’s unique and growing neighbourhoods -- almost similar to its Distillery District rival, a once heavy industrialized area with many factories (now closed off, of course, and transformed into various studio/office spaces).

Minutes away from the downtown core by streetcar, Liberty Village is rapidly transforming into a major hub for art studio & galleries, small boutiques & shops, and small restaurants & cafes.

This is where you’ll find us.  Visit us in this beautiful neighbourhood, take a stroll through the various paths, and you may just find a hidden part of the Village we have yet to discover.

News Item: Blog launch!
Monday, August 2, 2010 10:02 AM  | 0 Comments
And we’re here!  Finally, with our blog running, we’re closer to launch.  Here, we’ll write updates with the going-ons and happenings at Ukamaku.  What’s new with us and the site; what events we’re attending or throwing – fashion related or not; people or things we’re featuring, or things we’re featured in.  We'll also delve into the lastest trends and looks from top fashion designers, bringing you what's new in fashion.

We have our logo on the top left of this site.  The simple look is partitioned in two.  The two-colour split scheme represents the connection and collaboration of two groups – fashion designers and customers – merging as one.

We’re based in Toronto, a city that holds a few fashion events (large and small scale) each year.  A city that witnessed LG Fashion Week -- an annual event held twice a year -- and the Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week earlier in the year.  These fashion shows showcase many talents (e.g. David Dixon, Evan Biddell, Lucian Matis, Pink Tartan) from Toronto and across Canada.  We’d like to attract upcoming fashion designers and bring them to the forefront of the fashion scene.

Keep checking back for daily updates!
