Shining[Star]: Beach Coast Swimwear
Wednesday, September 7, 2011 11:31 AM  | 0 Comments
With the colder weather approaching, there's nothing better than getting out your swimwear, right? Yes, we've got you prepared for that time of year when taking a vacation to the sunny tropics or Caribbean becomes the perfect getaway from the cooler temperatures. Our latest foray into swimwear from Beach Coast Swimwear brings you an amazing collection you can take with you. To know more about the designer, we have a brief intro/interview from the designer herself.

Q: Describe your design style.  What would you tell others about your designs?

I design only when I’m inspired. The day I sit down to design because I have to design is the day that I quit. I let my mood dictate my creativity. I’m not necessarily ruled by trends, but instead design from the heart with trends’ faint whisper. Each look in the collection really is a piece of me – fun and always glam inspired.

Q: Describe your intended audience.  What kind of people would you want to buy your designs?

The Beach Coast woman is one that is proud and intelligent. She is confident with her body and isn’t afraid of flaunting her assets. She believes that confidence is like a glass of wine – it only gets better with age. She is between the ages of 18 - 45 and is in the know when it comes to not sacrificing fit for fashion. She knows that she could get the best of both worlds with the right swimsuit.

Q: How did you get into the fashion business?

I’ve been around clothing production since as far back as I can remember. Whether it was piece work that my mom brought home or dipping into scrap chiffon to hand sew Barbie clothes (I know, I’m a breathing cliché), I’ve always been fascinated by the process and the materials. Another love of mine is illustration. Fashion design unifies my passions and ultimately, was the perfect evolution.

Q: Why did you choose fashion as a career?

It didn’t come to me as an epiphany. It was never a question of if I should get into the fashion business; it was amatter of when.  I’ve always been a creative person. I also am in love with clothes. The fashion industry is an outlet where I can express myself through apparel. I remember one Halloween when I was 9 years old and desperate for a costume, I managed to hand sew a black and white polka dot maid costume. It had one full length sleeve and the other was ¾ with a lace ruffled skirt. I loved it! My mom thought the work was horrible and she chucked it. I was heartbroken, but it didn’t discourage my path in the slightest. I find it amusing now that she comes to me for alterations.

Q: Who or what is your design inspiration?

Alexander McQueen, hands down. I find it very admirable how he pushed the boundaries and always seemed to tell hypnotic stories with his collections. Complete devastation took over when he passed. He was so incredibly talented and the industry now has a black hole that can never be filled. He’s left behind an amazing legacy. May he rest in peace.

Q: Currently ,what's your favourite trend?

Rompers worn with a high heal. It’s so laid back, yet sexy.

Q: Who is your favourite designer?

At the moment I’m compelled by the design duo Marchesa. I love the way they can play with one colour, but still add much interest through the use of textures. Their outfits display great knowledge and beautiful technique.

Q: What is the one place you hope to bring your designs to?

It would be amazing for Beach Coast Swimwear to be involved with Miami fashion week. A feature in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition would be equally as exciting!

Q: What's your favourite material to use for your designs?

For swimwear, of course knits! Stability and elasticity is very important. Any knit that delivers on those prerequisites as well as has a comfortable and luxurious feel are winners in mybook.
